Students from University of Sharjah Visit Dubai Studio City

On Thursday, October 30, 2008, Dubai Studio City (DSC) welcomed 24 students representing the Cinema Association and the Communication College at the University of Sharjah. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the students with the key functions and strategic plan of the entity.

The students were welcomed by Mr. Jamal Al Sharif, executive Director of Dubai Studio City, himself. He talked to the students about the different services the entity provides, such as, the location approval services, and the DSC market website.

Later, the students went on an onsite tour where they visited Al Dawliya TV, a DS C business partner, and they were granted the opportunity of exploring a life studio and interacting with the staff. After that, the students paid a visit to the Arab Media Group (AMG), where they visited the editing room as well as the graphic design unit.

During their visit DSC arranged for the delegation to visit Arab Media Group (AMG) and Vertex, two of DSC’s Business Partners, where they could get hands on experience in the film animation industry. While in AMG the delegates visited the editing rooms where they got firsthand experience about how films are edited. They also learnt a lot about animation during their visit to Vertex.

The delegations were also given a tour of the Free zone

 

Hollywood Producer Robert Cohen Describes Dubai Phenomenon a Miracle During Visit to DSC

Dubai Studio City announced it hosted acclaimed American film producer, director, and writer Robert Cohen on his first visit to scout locations in Dubai for an upcoming project.

Jamal Al Sharif, Executive Director, Dubai Studio City, welcomed Cohen and briefed him on the philosophy behind creating a world-class technical and community infrastructure that supports the growth of the film production and broadcast industries.

Describing the Dubai phenomenon a ‘miracle’, Cohen said: “I am amazed by what this place has to offer in terms of scenic locales and ethnic diversity. I am definitely coming back to Dubai for my new movie.”

Some of Cohen’s success as a producer includes ‘The Witches of East Wick’, ‘The Serpent and the Rainbow’, and ‘The Running Man’. As a director, Cohen is mainly known for his hit film ‘The Mummy 4 – Rise of the Aztec’ and ‘Fast and the Furious’.

Spread over an area of 22 million sq ft, Dubai Studio City has 14 fully equipped sound stages, a 3.5 million sq ft back lot for outdoor shooting, commercial offices, pre-built studios, a business centre and post-production studios. The first phase of the development includes three sound stages – one 15,000 sq ft unit and two units of 25,000 sq ft each.

 

Dubai Studio City Hosts Exclusive Screening of \'Journey to Mecca\'

Dubai Studio City, a member of TECOM Investments, in association with Desert Door Productions, hosted an exclusive screening of ‘Journey to Mecca’ on 1 April at the Grand Cinemas in Ibn Batutta Mall for over 80 media and potential sponsors.

The screening was attended by Jamal Al Sharif, Executive Director, Dubai Studio City, Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), Fareed Abdulrahman, CEO of SmartCity, and Dima Alansary, Deputy General Manager, Desert Door Productions.

Journey to Mecca is an IMAX® feature-length docu-drama filmed in Saudi Arabia and Morocco in both English and Arabic. The film tells the amazing story of Ibn Battuta, the legendary 14th century traveller, explorer and writer, and paints an unforgettable picture of Islamic civilization, culminating in his first Hajj. The story also offers a close-up look at the contemporary Hajj, a pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca.
